What is wrong with your quartzite?

Dark band around the sink

Dark marks and edge darkening

Dark bands at sink cutouts, mitered edges and seams, oil spots by the cooktop and rust blooms, drawn out of the stone rather than covered.

Quartzite stain removal

Dull, hazy or worn patches

Dull or worn finish

Worn work zones and hazy patches refined with diamond abrasives, worked wet. Honed and leathered slabs go back to their own texture.

Quartzite polishing

Spills soak in and darken it

Water darkens the stone

A water-drop test tells us whether the slab needs sealing. We seal the cut edges and sink faces too, not just the top.

Quartzite sealing

Chipped edge or a crack

Chips, cracks and open seams

Chipped sink rims and edges, cracks from cutouts and overhangs, and opened seams, filled with resin tinted to the stone and finished to match.

Quartzite countertop repair

Darker, duller, or etched?

Compare the mark with the stone around it.

Darker: something soaked in

Water, oil or sealant bleed has wicked into the slab, most often from a raw cut edge at the sink, a mitered edge or a seam. It is drawn out, not polished.

Duller: wear or residue

Grit and daily use wear the finish flat where you work most, or a film of cleaner sits on top. Diamond polishing or a proper clean brings it back.

Etched by lemon or vinegar

True quartzite does not etch. A dull acid mark means the slab is likely dolomite or marble, and it needs the care that stone needs.

Is it really quartzite?

Slab yards use the name loosely. Many slabs sold as quartzite, including some called "soft quartzite," are dolomite or marble.

True quartzite is sandstone recrystallised into solid quartz, about 7 on the Mohs scale, and food acids do not touch it. Dolomite and marble etch, and they take different abrasives. We confirm the stone before choosing any chemistry or pad. Our guide to quartzite vs. marble shows how to tell, and cleaning quartzite counters covers daily care.

How we restore quartzite

  1. Identify the stone and the finish

We confirm true quartzite, dolomite or marble, and whether it is polished, honed or leathered.

  2. Find the cause

We trace where water or oil got in, and whether the face carries a factory resin.

  3. Test, then treat

A small test shows how the slab responds before we poultice, polish or seal.

  4. Seal and hand over

We seal where the water drop test says it helps, then walk you through daily care.

Get an estimate for your quartzite

Estimates are free and in person, because the right answer depends on the stone.

Send a photo of the whole surface and a close-up of the mark, with your city and any products already used. Photos help us plan the visit; we test the stone before confirming the work.

Quartzite questions

Will my quartzite look new again?

Usually it will look like well-kept quartzite: the dull patch blends in and most dark marks lift. Very old adhesive or oil bleed can leave a faint shadow, and we tell you which marks may stay before we start.

How long does the work take?

Polishing or sealing a kitchen is usually one visit. Drawing out a dark band takes longer, because the poultice has to dry and some stains need several rounds. We give you a time frame at the estimate.

Will the dark band around my sink come back?

Not if the cause is dealt with. Once the stain is out, we seal the cut edges and sink faces where water was getting in. A leaking faucet or failed caulk line needs fixing too, or water finds the same path.

My quartzite etched. What does that mean?

True quartzite does not etch from lemon, wine or vinegar. A dull mark from an acid spill means the slab is most likely dolomite or marble sold as quartzite. It can still be restored, with the abrasives and care that stone needs.

Can you tell what is wrong from a photo?

A photo tells us a lot: whether a mark is darker or duller, where it sits, and how big the job is. We still test the stone in person before confirming the work, because the slab decides the method.

Do you replace or install quartzite?

No. We restore the quartzite you already have. If a piece is beyond repair, we say so plainly, and you can bring in a fabricator for that piece.
