Granite resists everyday acids but still picks up oil stains near the cooktop, rust marks, and chips or cracks that usually trace back to installation stress. Poultice extraction, chip fill, and honing restore it, with sealing guided by an absorption test, not a calendar.

Marble countertop restoration
Marble is the softest common counter stone, so lemon, wine, and vinegar etch it and years of use leave scratches and absorbed stains. Honing and repolishing correct etch marks mechanically, and sealing slows staining but never stops etching.

Quartz countertop restoration
Because quartz is engineered, its failures come from the resin, not the mineral: heat scorching, UV yellowing on sun-exposed counters, and chemical marks. Chips take a color-matched resin fill, but it's never sealed, and severe heat or UV damage often can't be made invisible.

Quartzite countertop restoration
A slab sold as quartzite often turns out to be a softer, acid-sensitive stone once it starts etching, so confirming the material comes first. True quartzite is hard and acid-resistant and restores much like granite, with chip fill, honing, and absorption-tested sealing.

Travertine countertop restoration
Travertine is the most porous stone we work on, so filler pops out of its natural voids, spills etch it, and sealers break down fast in the desert climate. Voids get refilled and the surface honed flush, but acidic hard-water removers must be avoided, they etch it too.

Porcelain countertop restoration
Porcelain shrugs off acid and UV and never needs sealing, but its thin mitered edges chip from minor impacts like a dropped pan. Edge chips can often be filled and blended, though damage through the printed pattern or slab body usually means replacement.

Corian countertop restoration
Corian scratches, scorches from hot pans, and clouds from harsh chemicals because it's a fairly soft acrylic surface. Its color runs through the full thickness, though, so it can usually be sanded and refinished back to factory condition on site.

Not every mark on a countertop means the same thing. Before we recommend anything, we sort out which of these it actually is:
Residue or film
Soap scum, hard-water film, or cleaner buildup sitting on top of the stone, nothing has happened to the material itself. It usually wipes or scrapes off with a material-safe cleaner, no restoration needed.
Stain
Something has penetrated the stone's pores and darkened it, though the surface still feels smooth. We identify the stain type, oil, water-based, organic, or metallic, before poulticing it back out.
Etch (calcareous stones only)
An acid reaction has dissolved the surface of marble, travertine, or a stone sold as "quartzite" that's actually calcareous underneath. It shows up dull, lighter, or rough under raking light. No cleaner or sealer fixes an etch, only mechanical honing does.
Damage
The stone has been physically chipped, cracked, or lost fill. We check the substrate and support underneath before any cosmetic repair, since a crack filled without addressing the cause just reopens.

Why the desert is hard on countertops
The City of Phoenix's 2025 Water Quality Report puts total water hardness across that system at 172–302 ppm, or 10 to 17.6 grains per gallon. East Valley cities run their own utilities and publish their own numbers, but the water is drawn from the same Colorado River and Salt River Project sources, and it is hard everywhere in the valley. That mineral load doesn't just stay in the water, it deposits on countertops, and the dry desert air makes it worse. Evaporation happens fast here, so mineral film can build back within days of a normal cleaning.
Heat and direct sun take a toll too, mostly by breaking down sealers faster than they would in a milder climate. Counters under south- or west-facing windows typically need their sealer checked more often than the same stone in a shaded kitchen.
