“Wonderful business. My counters and floors look awesome! Justin is professional and personable.”
Granite Countertop Polishing in San Tan Valley and the East Valley
Granite that used to shine now looks cloudy, streaky, or flat, and the polish sprays from the store are not helping. Often the stone is not worn at all: it is buried under film from cleaners and 3-in-1 products. Sometimes it really is scratched or worn around the sink. We work out which before we touch it, strip what is sitting on top, and diamond-polish only the areas that need it. Text us a photo of your counter.

Dull granite is usually covered, not worn
Polished granite is hard, and normal kitchen use does not wear the shine off quickly. Most cloudy counters have something sitting on top of the stone.
Something on top of the stone
- Polish sprays and 3-in-1 cleaners that leave a coating every time, building into a smeary film.
- Sealer haze, where sealer dried on the surface instead of being wiped off.
- Hard-water film and soap residue around the sink, which East Valley water leaves quickly.
- Grease near the cooktop that everyday wiping just spreads around.
Fix: strip the buildup. Often no grinding needed.
Wear in the stone itself
- Scratches you can feel with a fingernail, from grit dragged under pans or appliances.
- Dull patches from scrubbing with a scouring pad, pumice, or a blade.
- Worn areas around the sink and cooktop after years of use and harsh cleaners.
- Dull marks after an acidic spill, in stones sold as granite that contain acid-sensitive minerals.
Fix: diamond refining through finer grits, then polish.
A two-minute check you can do tonight
- Clean a small dull area with a cleaner made for natural stone.
- Dry it with a clean microfiber cloth.
- Compare it with the counter around it. If that spot comes up clearer, at least part of the dullness is buildup, and stripping it can bring back much of the shine.
We measure the shine instead of guessing
Shine is hard to judge under kitchen lights. A gloss meter measures how much light the surface reflects, so we record a starting number and confirm the result instead of calling it "shinier."
82→115Gloss readings before and after polishing on the same kitchen's granite.
Numbers vary from stone to stone, so there is no single target. What matters is the change on your counter, and an even reading from one end to the other.

Honed, leathered, or not granite at all
Not every flat-looking counter is dull, and not every "granite" counter is granite. We confirm both before polishing.
- HonedSmooth and matte on purpose. Polishing changes the finish; fine if that is what you want, but it is not a repair.
- LeatheredA soft texture you can feel. Small pits where softer minerals came out are part of the look.
- Quartz, quartzite, marble, dolomiteAll get sold or described as granite and respond differently. Quartz cannot be polished like stone; see quartz countertop repair.
What polishing will not fix on its own
Chips and open pits
These need filling before polishing. We handle that as granite chip and crack repair, often in the same visit.
Dark stains
A stain is below the surface. It needs granite stain removal, not polishing.
Hazy or resin-heavy slabs
Some slabs left the factory hazy or heavily resin-treated. Polishing helps less, and we tell you if we suspect it.
Keeping the shine afterwards
Once the surface is clean and polished, keeping it that way is mostly about what you stop using.
- CleanA pH-neutral stone cleaner, or mild dish soap and water, then dry with microfiber.
- Skip3-in-1 sprays, wax-based "granite polish," and glass cleaner. They bring the haze back.
- Keep offVinegar, bleach, and bathroom descalers.
- Reseal when it absorbsNot on a calendar. Our granite cleaning and sealing page explains the water test.

What to expect when we work on your countertops
Find out why it looks dull
We confirm the stone and its finish, clean a test area, and look at it under raking light. That tells us whether the shine is hidden under buildup or the surface itself is scratched or worn. A gloss reading gives a starting number.
Protect the kitchen
Cabinets, backsplash, appliances, and floors are covered. Polishing is done wet, which keeps stone dust down but means the surrounding surfaces need protecting from splash.
Strip buildup, then refine only where needed
Old wax, sealer haze, and cleaner film are removed first. Where scratches or worn areas remain, diamond pads are worked through progressively finer grits until the scratch pattern is gone. Areas that are not worn are not ground.
Polish, measure, and explain care
A polishing compound brings the surface up to an even shine. We take another reading, look at the counter with you in normal light, and check whether it needs sealing. You leave with care advice that keeps buildup from coming back.
Get an estimate for your countertop
Your estimate depends on the amount of counter, whether the dullness is buildup or wear, how deep any scratches go, and whether chips, stains, or sealing need attention at the same time. We separate stripping buildup from polishing worn stone so you can see what each part involves.
Send one photo of the whole countertop and a close-up of the area that concerns you. Include your city, the approximate size, and any products already used. Photos help us plan the assessment; we may need to inspect and test the stone before confirming the work.
Based in San Tan Valley, we serve Queen Creek, Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, and the rest of the East Valley.
Questions before booking
Do you have to polish the whole counter, or just the dull spot?
Sometimes a spot can be blended in, especially when the dullness is small and the rest of the counter is in good shape. Where the whole surface has dulled, polishing only one area leaves it brighter than the rest. We look at the counter and tell you which applies.
Will sealing make my granite shiny again?
No. Sealer soaks into the stone to slow down staining. It does not create shine, and sealer left to dry on the surface is one of the causes of haze.
Are granite polish sprays bad for the stone?
They do not damage granite, but most of them work by leaving a coating behind. Used often, that coating builds into the streaky, cloudy film many people are trying to get rid of. A pH-neutral stone cleaner and a dry microfiber cloth work better for daily use.
Is polishing messy or dusty?
Polishing is done wet, which keeps fine stone dust out of the air, and the kitchen around the counter is covered before we start. Expect the counter area to be out of use while we work. We tell you when you can use it again.
My counters are quartz, not granite. Can you polish them?
Quartz is an engineered surface bound with resin, and it cannot be polished the way natural stone can. See our quartz countertop repair page for what is possible on that material.
Do you replace or install countertops?
No. We restore the countertops you already have. Most dull granite can be brought back without replacing anything.
