What we see in East Valley showers

East Valley water is hard, and the bathroom cleaners that cut through it on porcelain are the ones that damage marble.

Showers are one part of our marble restoration services. These are the four problems we find most.

Etching

Chalky white blotches

Patches that vanish when the wall is wet and come back as it dries. That is etching and fine scratching from acidic or abrasive cleaners, not dirt.

Hard water

Scale on walls and the glass track

White crust left by evaporated water, heaviest low on the walls, around fixtures and along the curb and door track.

Residue

Soap film and dulling

A grey film from soap and body products that dulls the sheen and holds more scale.

Moisture

Dark tiles that never dry

Grey patches, often near the drain, that stay dark long after a shower. Water is usually trapped under the tile.

What can and cannot be fixed

Most of what makes a marble shower look tired is at the surface. Some of it is behind the tile, and polishing cannot reach it.

We restore

Damage at the surface

  • Etching and chalky blotches, honed out with diamond abrasives and brought back to the finish you choose.
  • Hard-water scale, removed mechanically, not with acid, then the stone is refined where the scale dulled it.
  • Dull walls and floors, honed or polished to one even sheen.

Result: the etch is gone and the sheen is even.

We tell you

Water under the tile

  • Tiles that stay dark are usually an installation problem: water trapped between the stone and what it is set on. We tell you rather than polish over it.
  • Cracked or loose tiles may need repair or another trade before the surface is worth refining.

You know which problems are in the stone and which are behind it before we start.

Choosing the finish, and sealing the joints

Shower walls etch every time an acidic product touches them, so the finish matters more here than anywhere else in the house.

A honed finish hides new etching better than a high polish; see marble honing. Cracked grout and failed caulk at the corners let water in behind the stone, so we check every joint and handle the failed ones as grout repair.

Afterwards, a squeegee after every shower is the single most effective habit. For the routine, and the cleaners to keep out of the shower, see how to clean a marble shower.

What to expect when we work on your marble

  1. Identify the stone and the problem

We confirm it is marble and separate etching, scale, soap film and trapped water before choosing the work.

  2. Protect and test

Fixtures, glass and the bathroom floor are covered. A test area shows how the stone responds.

  3. Remove scale, then hone or polish

Scale comes off mechanically, without acid. Diamond abrasives, worked wet, take out etching; finer stages set the sheen.

  4. Joints, sealing and handoff

We check grout and caulk, seal where it helps, and tell you when the shower can be used.

Get an estimate for your marble

Your estimate depends on the size of the shower, how deep the etching goes, how much scale has built up, whether grout or caulk needs work, and whether you want a polished or honed finish. We look at the stone in person and set out the scope before any work starts.

Send a photo of the whole surface and a close-up of the mark, with your city and any products already used. Photos help us plan the visit; we test the stone before confirming the work.

Based in San Tan Valley, we serve Queen Creek, Gilbert, Mesa and Chandler, along with the rest of the East Valley.

Questions before booking

Why does my marble shower look chalky?

White blotches that vanish when the wall is wet and return as it dries are usually etching and fine scratches from acidic or abrasive cleaners. Water fills the roughened surface for a moment, which is why they hide. They need honing, not more cleaning.

Which cleaner is safe for a marble shower?

A pH-neutral cleaner made for natural stone. Keep vinegar, lemon, acidic bathroom and grout cleaners, scouring powders and abrasive pads off the marble, and never mix bleach with ammonia.

Is a squeegee really necessary?

It is the single most effective habit for a marble shower. Taking the water off the walls and glass after every shower removes it before minerals and soap dry on the stone, so scale and film build up far more slowly.

How soon can I use the shower after restoration?

We tell you at handoff. It depends on whether sealer was applied: if it was, the shower stays dry until the sealer has had the cure time its label requires, and we give you that time before we leave.

Can a honed finish make a shower floor less slippery?

A finish name alone does not establish slip resistance; water, soap residue and footwear matter. Honed marble is generally less slick than a high polish when wet, but any wet stone floor needs care.
